Our Story

A Café Built on
Simple Pleasures

The Crown & Kettle opened its doors in 2009 with a single ambition: to be the kind of place you never want to leave. No pretension, no rush — just genuinely good food and coffee served by people who care.

We bake everything ourselves each morning in our kitchen on Parliament Street. Our coffee is sourced from two independent roasters, and our seasonal menu changes every few weeks to follow what's best and freshest.

Whether you're after a quiet corner with a flat white and a book, a long weekend brunch with friends, or our signature afternoon tea, you'll find a seat with your name on it.

Made From Scratch Everything baked fresh each morning. No frozen anything.
Single-Origin Coffee Sourced from two Yorkshire roasters we trust.
Seasonal Menu Rotating specials that follow what's growing and good.
Dog Friendly Well-behaved dogs welcome. Water bowls always available.

"We came for the afternoon tea on a whim and it was simply the nicest hour and a half we'd had all trip. The scones were warm, the sandwiches fresh, and the staff topped up the tea unprompted. We've been back twice since and we're already planning our next visit."

"Best flat white in Harrogate, full stop. I've tried everywhere and nothing comes close. The café itself is beautiful — proper crockery, always spotless, and the background music is just right. A genuinely lovely place to work from on a Monday morning."

"Took my mum here for her birthday — she's gluten intolerant and usually dreads eating out. The staff knew everything about the menu, there was no fuss, and she had a gorgeous GF brownie and a pot of Earl Grey. She's been telling everyone about it. Thank you!"

"The full Crown Breakfast is extraordinary. Proper free-range eggs, sausages that taste like actual pork, sourdough from a local bakery — this is what a full English should be. I visit Harrogate for work twice a month specifically so I can come here on the Friday morning."

Questions

Frequently Asked

Can't find your answer? Give us a call on 01423 501 890 — we're happy to help.

Do I need to plan ahead before visiting? +
Walk-ins are always welcome for coffee, cake, brunch and light bites. For larger groups, calling ahead helps us prepare the best experience and seat everyone comfortably.
Are you dog friendly? +
Yes, absolutely. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the café and we always have water bowls available. We only ask that dogs stay on their leads and are kept off the chairs.
Do you have gluten-free and vegan options? +
We do. Several items on our menu are gluten-free by default, and we have vegan options for drinks, cakes and brunch. Full allergen information is available on request. Please mention any dietary requirements before your visit and we'll make sure you're well looked after.
Can I work from the café? +
Of course — we're a firm favourite with remote workers and freelancers. We have free Wi-Fi and plenty of plug sockets. We just ask that during busy weekend periods you give up your seat after a couple of hours if there's a queue forming.
How much is afternoon tea? +
Our Classic Afternoon Tea is £28 per person and includes finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, seasonal cakes, and a pot of tea or filter coffee. The Prosecco Afternoon Tea is £36 per person and includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival. Available daily from 2pm.
Do you cater for private events or large groups? +
We can accommodate groups of up to 20 people for private hire during off-peak hours. We've hosted baby showers, birthday teas, hen parties and corporate away days. Get in touch by phone or email and we'll put together something tailored for your group.
Do you sell gift vouchers? +
Yes. Gift vouchers are available in any amount and can be purchased in the café or by phoning us. They're valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and can be used on anything — food, drinks, afternoon tea, or a combination. They make a lovely gift.
Is there parking nearby? +
Harrogate town centre has several car parks within walking distance — the closest are James Street and Crown Place car parks, both roughly two minutes on foot. The train station is also a three-minute walk and there are several bus stops nearby on Cambridge Road and Cheltenham Mount.
